Writing is a fun way for family members to communicate with each
other and others in their lives. The links on this page lead you to
an overview of the Pennsylvania Academic Standards for Writing (what
your child is expected to know and be able to do). Encourage your
child to write for different reasons to increase his or her creative
thinking, vocabulary, self-expression, and organizational skills.
Talk to your child about reasons to write and offer guidance when
necessary to help your child become a more successful writer.

Descriptions of the Reporting Categories
The topics that are tested on the PSSA are based
on the Pennsylvania Academic Standards, which describe what all students
should know, understand, and be able to do. Above is a link to descriptions
of each reporting category. Each description is followed by an activity
that you and your child can do together to help improve her skills
in that area.
